Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty is asking for the Fair Trade Commission to investigate Google and Apple

The Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty's press conference on the 21st revealed that Google and Apple are receiving money from app developers in the form of commission fees, and that these companies are also forcing developers to use their own in-app purchase systems. The group also reported Google and Apple to the Fair Trade Commission for violating the Telecommunications Business Act and the Fair Trade Act.

The Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty held a press conference on 21st and argued that Google and Apple are inducing payments in favor of them in the app market, and forcing fees even in the case of a "third-party payment method" is an act of using the market's exclusive status.

The Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty reported the two companies to the Fair Trade Commission regarding the payment methods that Google and Apple are applying in the smartphone app market in the Android and iOS environments.

They urged Google and Apple to allow "outlink" payments so that payments can be made through external web pages. They also urged the KCC, Korea Communications Commission to immediately sanction Google's act of deleting and restricting web payment outlinks on Kakao Talk and delaying app update , as it is also a violation of the Telecommunications Business Act and the Fair Trade Act.

The Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty pointed out that
even though the Korea Communications Commission has made it clear that the act of enforcing a specific payment method is a violation of paragraph No. 1 of the Telecommunications Business Act,
Google and Apple are ignoring this.
The Citizens United for Consumer Sovereignty submitted a report to the Fair Trade Commission in violation of Article 3 and 45 of the Act on Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade, and Article 3 of the Act on the Fairness of Labeling and Advertising.

As both Google and Kakao operate their business with commission fees, consumers should measure how the allocation is really being done with all the platforms at each stage on the same line. If there is a dispute between the platforms, it may be desirable to decide by litigation and make the law through the precedent later on, but Korea often makes the law first.
