Court rules fan manufacturer cannot be held responsible for compensation in event of fire caused by overheating while mining Bitcoin.

A court ruled that the fan manufacturer cannot be held responsible for compensation in the event of a fire caused by overheating while turning the fan all day to cool the heat of the miner in the process of Bitcoin mining.

After paying 50 million won in compensation for damages, Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance filed a lawsuit claiming 140 million won in compensation against the manufacturer, saying, "The accident occurred because the fan was not safe and durable."
Choi Sung-soo, a presiding judge at the Seoul Central District Court, said on the 29th that Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance, the plaintiff had lost in a lawsuit filed against a fan manufacturer.

After signing an insurance payment contract with the insurance company, A bitcoin miner purchased a new industrial fan in mid-August last year and used it with bitcoin mining equipments.

About a month later, on October 3, a fire broke out at the front of the fan motor connection, and the fire destroyed furniture and inventory in the building.
Since then, Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance has filed a lawsuit claiming 140 million won in compensation against the manufacturer, saying, "The accident occurred because the fan was not safe and durable."
However, the court ruled, "They operated Bitcoin miners and fans 24 hours a day for more than 30 days after purchasing the fan," adding, "The plaintiff's claim is without merit because it is difficult to see as the fan in normal use due to the possibility of overheating."
The intention is that the fan was used in an abnormal condition beyond the expected range at the time of manufacture, so the manufacturer cannot be held responsible for compensation.

The court ruled in favor of the fan manufacturer, and that Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance will not be receiving the 140 million won that they were claiming. This is likely because the court found that the fire was caused by the abnormal use of the fan, rather than by any defect in the product.
