Hyundai Motor Announces Contract to Supply 50 Ioniq 5 EVs to Japan's MK Taxi

Hyundai Motor announced on the 20th that it signed a contract to supply 50 Ionic 5 to Japan's MK taxi and made its first step in the Japanese electric vehicle market.
MK Taxi plans to replace 50 of the 700 taxis operating in Kyoto, where the head office is.

Starting with Ioniq 5, MK Taxi is planning to introduce EV taxis in earnest.
MK Taxi is converting all vehicles into electric vehicles in line with decarbonization, the world's biggest issue, such as ending liquefied petroleum gas taxi operations in February and installing fast chargers at each business office starting this year.

Hyundai Motor will establish a technical support cooperation with MK Taxi Kyoto Maintenance Plant and support taxi equipment such as driving record equipment and taxi meter.
It aims to convert 30%of its vehicles by 2025 and to convert all vehicles by 2030.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor will operate Hyundai Mobility Lounge Marunouchi, an electric and hydrogen electric vehicle experience space, in Marunouchi, Tokyo, Japan's economic and financial center, until August.
At the end of this month, the Hyundai Customer Experience Center, an offline base and Japan's first direct management center, will be opened in Yokohama.

Korean cars were especially unpopular in Japan and rarely sold. I wonder if changes will come with the opening of the electric vehicle era. it's possible that this move by Hyundai Motor could help improve its image in Japan somewhat. It is good to see that Hyundai is branching out into the Japanese market.
