Kakao Services Collapse and Minister Lee Jong-Ho Apologizes

"It is regrettable that the fire broke out on October 15 and caused inconvenience to the public," Science and ICT Minister Lee Jong-ho said in an emergency report on the National Assembly's National Science and Technology Information and Communications Commission's National Audit held at the Science and Culture Center of the Basic Science Institute on the 18th. "Unlike the national network that provides wired and wireless services, additional communication services were outside the system, but if Kakao services collapse, the economy and society will be paralyzed beyond public inconvenience"
Chung Cheong-rae, chairman of the National Assembly's National Science and Technology Information and Communications Commission pointed out, "As the minister in charge, you should apologize to the public first instead of saying, 'Thank you for giving me a chance to tell you.'"
In response, Minister Lee bowed his head 90 degrees, saying, "This caused great inconvenience to the people," adding, "As the secretary of state in charge of that, I deeply apologize to the people. We will come up with institutional and technical measures such as thorough analysis of the cause."
Minister Lee Jong-ho said, "The Ministry of Science and ICT has formed a disaster response headquarters with the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the Korea Communications Commission, and the fire authorities to respond to the cause analysis."

It is hard to understand that the Minister apologizes for the paralysis of one Internet company. Rather, the government should have apologized for how they left the people over-dependent on a single service.

Of course, the minister's apology seems to be more about the inconvenience caused to the public rather than the paralysis of Kakao services. It is possible that the government did not anticipate the extent to which people would be affected by the outage.
