NHN Plans to Merge NHN Bigfoot and Concentrate on Fostering the Game Business Capabilities
NHN announced on the 14th that it plans to absorb and merge NHN Bigfoot on October 1st and concentrate on fostering the game business capabilities, the birthplace of the group.
Earlier this year, NHN merged its game subsidiaries, which were divided into NHN Bigfoot, NHN Pixel Cube, and NHN RPG, into NHN Bigfoot.
In addition, it plans to promote the efficiency of the structure of group companies by selecting and concentrating on the four core businesses (content, technology, payment, and commerce).
NHN said, "The recent trend of regulatory rationalization of the game industry has secured stability in business operations," adding, "As new businesses in the group enter a stable growth stage, conditions are in place to focus strongly on the game business."
In fact, Han Game's mobile web board game "Han Game Poker" ranked 10th in Google Play's sales ranking for the first time in about a year on the 9th.
In addition, NHN is planning to streamline the structure of group companies based on this merger.
It is planning to promote synergy within NHN Group that cooperates with NHN Cloud, which operates artificial intelligence business, and NHN Payco, which operates payment and mileage business.
In order to demonstrate NHN's know-how in managing game goods, it was necessary to unite its business capabilities distributed to its subsidiaries. In particular, the strategy is to preoccupy the blockchain game market in the future with its unique know-how, along with its in-game goods management capabilities accumulated for more than 20 years since the launch of Han Game in 1999.
"We want to focus our business capabilities on the headquarters and respond more actively to seize new growth opportunities in the rapidly changing game industry," said Jeong Woo-jin, CEO of NHN. "The headquarters will grow into a global top tier tech company by increasing its weight class mainly in the game business."
NHN plans to become a global game company based on various genres based on its competitiveness in the web board game field in Korea.
It is interesting that they are focusing on the blockchain game market. This could be a wise move, as the speculative gaming industry is rapidly changing. We are all curious to see how this develops.
