The Ministry of Science and Technology's plan to improve the training of semiconductor design majors.
The semiconductor industry is one of the most important industries in the world, and it is constantly evolving. The need for talent in this field is constantly changing as well. The government's role in talent development in this industry should be to provide the infrastructure and resources necessary for talent to develop, and to communicate with the industry to ensure that the talent being developed is the talent that is needed.
The Ministry of Science and ICT met with nano and semiconductor infrastructure officials and semiconductor design educators in the public sector, at the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) on the 13th to discuss ways to enhance talent development in semiconductor design.
Ko Seo-gon, head of the research and development policy at the Ministry of Science and Technology, said, “The key to securing high -tech industrial competitiveness such as semiconductors is securing high quality talent. It is about a sufficient training of design personnel, and for this purpose, the government will communicate with the industry. ”
The Ministry of Science and Technology has come up with a plan to cultivate practical talents with design, production, and verification experience. By supporting students to manufacture and verify their own-designed chips using public infrastructure.
They aimed to support educational chip production to about 400 semiconductor design majors every year by utilizing the existing public semiconductor production infrastructure.
Until now, there has been a lack of opportunities to check whether it was designed as intended when it was actually manufactured as a chip after using design theory and automatic design program (EDA Tool)
President Yoon Seok-yeol ordered at a Cabinet meeting on the 7th of last month, "All ministries, centered on the Ministry of Education, should make special efforts to foster talent in high-tech industries such as semiconductors."
Korea is one of the countries with a philosophy that the state should cultivate talented people. However, the demand for talent is determined by the market. Discussions on whether it is desirable or possible for the state to make that prediction usually hide behind. Nor does the story of the cost come to light.
