The Status of Facebook in the Korean Social Networking Service Market.

Monthly Facebook users in Korea have decreased by 25% in the past two years. According to IGAWorks' big data analysis solution, Mobile Index, the number of monthly active users, MAU, using Facebook at Google Play Store and Apple App Store last month was 1,196,919.
It has decreased by about a quarter since May 2020, when the analysis began, and it has decreased by about 17% compared to July last year. Statista, a global market research firm, counted 2.93 billion monthly active users of Facebook in the second quarter of this year. Compared to the same period last year, it increased by only 1.3% and compared to the first quarter of this year, the number of users decreased by about 2 million.
In this background, there is a departure of the MZ generation (born in the early 1980s and early 2000s).  According to a report titled "The Status of SNS Usage by Generation" released by the Korea Institute for Information and Communication Policy (KISDI) in June, the usage rate of Facebook for millennials (aged 25 to 38) was 27.0% last year, far lower than 48.6% for Facebook in their 20s in 2017. Last year, Generation Z's Facebook usage rate was 38.4%, down from 57.2% of the teenage Facebook usage rate in 2017.
Meta explained that Facebook's status in the domestic social networking service (SNS) market is solid, but that it continues to change according to user demands.

It can be felt that domestic users have decreased by 25% in two years. Facebook is rapidly becoming a communication space for middle-aged people in Korea.

The decrease in Facebook users in Korea is likely due to a combination of factors, including the departure of millennials and Generation Z users, as well as changes in user demands. Facebook's status in the domestic social networking service market might be still strong, but it is clear that the platform should evolve to meet the needs of its users.
